Jersey City, NJ 9/11 Memorial

I was looking through some pictures this evening and saw this one. I took it on Easter Sunday morning while I was out walking around in a park along the Hudson River across from the World Trade Center. Someone left a West Yorkshire Police hat badge on a part of the memorial honoring the 38 Jersey City, NJ residents that were killed by terrorists on September 11th, 2001.

Ladder Training

We spent a few hours yesterday going around town training on apparatus placement. Most of the training was focused on how to get the most out of our ladder truck.

Trip to the Dentist

I was looking through some pictures tonight and found this one. I believe it's my daughters first visit to the dentist. I made the office a copy and they still have it up in the exam room.

Gallipolis, Ohio

Took my gal to Gallipolis to a volleyball game. They won. Too dark in the gym for any pictures but I walked around town a little while they were warming up. Looks like a pretty nice town.

Flynt

One of our cats died today. We'd had Flynt for about 5 or 6 years. We got him at the shelter when he was just a kitten. I've had cats since I was just a little boy and I had a gray cat named Flynt when I still lived at home. We liked the name Flynt, so when Kim and I got another gray cat we named him Flynt too. We had him for a long time before he died. My daughter wanted another kitten several years ago so we went to the shelter to look for one. We played with all kinds of kittens that day but Kim just kept holding this one little gray one. My daughter and I wanted a girl or an orange cat. We messed around up there for quite a while and we couldn't decide on one, but Kim was still holding the little gray one. My daughter finally said, "what about the one Mom's holdin'?". So I said , "we might as well get that one and we can have another Flynt."

People that don't have pets probably don't understand how attached we get to them and how much we love them and how much company they are. But people that do have pets understand how sad we feel right now.

He was a great big cat and had the best personality. He always looked like he was smiling, just like the bottom picture. We're gonna miss you Flynt.

Writing Spider

I've got the coolest Writing Spider ever. I found it a couple of weeks ago at the corner of the house. I had one last year too but it was where I couldn't get a good picture of it. I talked Kim into coming around and looking at it. She said it was "beautiful". Boo, sarcasm. Now, I wouldn't want it on me but it's cool to have around.

You know you're getting old...

One of the other captains on the fire department got a new hearing aid. I had to put my glasses on to see it.
